Matured in 90% new, 10% used French (67%) and American (33%) hogsheads for 18 months prior to blending and bottling.
 
Deep crimson in colour with a purple hue. Powerful, ripe aromas of blackberry and plum with complexing hints of star anise, ferns, eucalypt and dark chocolate. The palate is an intense and concentrated blend of sweet, juicy plum pudding fruit and structured ripe tannin. With mouthfilling power, seamless texture and lingering finish the wine displays the hallmark characters of the Mount Edelstone vineyard in one of its greatest years.

The 2005 Mount Edelstone is a 100% Shiraz cuvee sourced from a vineyard planted in 1912. Yields are a meager 0.3 to 0.5 tons of fruit per acre. In combination with a near ideal growing season, this has resulted in a great edition of Mount Edelstone, one of South Australia’s iconic wines. Purple-colored, the nose gives up notes of mocha, chocolate, smoked meat, pepper, leather, blueberry, and blackberry. Elegant, already complex, layered, and thoroughly satisfying, this superb Shiraz has enough baby fat to be enjoyed now but will amply reward 5-7 years of cellaring. It will drink beautifully through 2025.

若提起巴羅莎谷地的偶像酒,則八度樂章絕對列名其中。酒香美妙的散發出香甜藍莓、黑松露、黑莓、胡椒及烘烤的濃縮咖啡香氣。酒體飽滿,豐腴且強壯有力,帶有甜甜的單寧、適當的酸度及華麗的餘韻。

Yalumba The Octavius has established a reputation as one of Australia's icon Shiraz wines, an amazing feat considering the first release was the 1990 vintage. In addition to being sourced from a number of very old vineyards in the Barossa, The Octavius is matured in American oak 'octaves' of 90 litres capacity. It is the only red wine in the world that is matured in such small barrels. The secret of the wine not becoming overpowered by the oak lies in the wood which is seasoned at Yalumba's own on-site cooperage for eight years before the octaves are crafted. Yalumba is one of a select few wineries in the world who boast their own coopers practising the ancient craft of barrel making.

 

The grapes were hand picked and crushed to our 8 tonne open top stainless steel fermenters. The natural or 'wild' yeasts present on the grape skins were allowed to initiate the sugar fermentation. Cultured winery yeasts were then added to complete this fermentation which was, along with cap/skin management, controlled by the Yalumba designed cap plunger. The result is a wine with excellent depth of colour, richness and complexity. Generally the grapes for ‘The Octavius’ are sourced from vineyards within both the Eden Valley and Barossa Valley regions, however, in Vintage 2004, only Barossa Valley grapes were used. The vines are all mature, most being between 70 and 100 years old. Vineyard yields are generally between 2 and 5 tonnes per hectare. Soil types vary from red-brown earth over red clay, sandy loam over clay to sandy soils.

 

A palate of depth and intensity with dark fruits, violets, and floral flavours help to unveil the richness of this wine. Soft, refined tannins give balance and structure. This wine is made for medium to long term cellaring.

 

 

 

 
The 2008 The Octavius is 100% Shiraz aged for 22 months in American and Hungarian oak, much of it new. Inky black/purple, it coats the glass with legs. It has an alluring perfume of toasty oak, plum, licorice, blueberry, bacon, blackberry, and a hint of chocolate. Voluptuous and youthful, it has intense flavors, plenty of well-concealed structure, and a 60-second finish. Cellar it for 8-10 years and drink it through 2035.
