沒聽過John Duval嗎？那Penfolds Grange可曾聽過？

 

沒錯！Penfolds Grange是澳洲最有名的指標酒，而John Duval便是一手打造這款傳奇的釀酒師，他在1986年到2002年這17個年頭，維持了Grange他澳洲第一酒的名號！

 

人生有多少個30年？這款Eligo Reserve Shiraz是Jone Duval挑選自家葡萄園最優良果實，集30年釀酒技藝所打造出的另一瓶頂級膜拜酒，其中當然也包含釀造Grange時的種種經驗菁華，使用品種如同Grange一般，以澳洲最知名且堅實的Shiraz打造多層次酒體，有時添加少量Cabernet Suavignon以展畫龍點睛之效，展現澳洲酒最極端的細膩風雅，2005年則是這個Grange傳奇接棒者的第一個年份！

釀酒師John Duval為澳洲傳奇性人物，他擔任Penfolds酒廠的首席釀酒師將近30年，著名的Grange便是他一手創造，也包含旗下所有的Bin系列，這讓他站上世界頂級紅酒的舞台。

 

2003年起，John Duval使用自己的名字創立了約翰杜佛酒廠，行家知道他就是Penfolds Grange的推手，所以他們家的酒往往一瓶難得，現在台灣終於引進，實在是動用了許多酒商關係能擁有的結果。光是這一點，五號的酒友們你千萬要珍惜這個機會。

 

John Duval提到，約翰杜佛酒廠絕對不是另一個Penfolds，但這是他浸淫葡萄酒30年，對葡萄酒的知識、熱情與了解所展現出來的成果。

約翰杜佛認為Shiraz施赫葡萄絕對具有優雅的面貌，這支Eligo便是他將30年心力投注其上的成果，使用Barossa與Eden Valley最好的葡萄來釀造，100%橡木桶陳年，其中包含66%的新桶，產量稀少。以這樣的出生履歷，很難讓人不去聯想到他創的驚世之作Penfolds Grange，同樣是以Shiraz為主，卻展現新一代Grange般的霸氣宏偉！

 

澳洲葡萄酒大師James Holliday給予95分且稱讚他『完美精確的果香與極長尾韻』，WA形容有『蠱惑人的香氣』以及93+高分，IWC也了94高分，並且很逗趣的說『我無法不去再喝一杯』，Wine Enthusiast也同樣有93高分，Wine 100以及Good Australian Wine Guide更都是96極高分！英國Decanter雜誌也給予五顆星的滿分評價！雖然John Duval說很明確的說他並不想做出另一個Penfolds，但他在Penfolds所累積的知識經驗，反倒更令人期待！

Dense but bright colour; has perfectly pitched blackberry, plum fruit and French oak on both the bouquet and medium- to full-bodied palate, with a very long finish.

 

Wine Advocate：93+ points

Eligo Shiraz which spent 20 months in 66 percent new French oak hogsheads. Opaque purple-colored, it emits a fragrant, captivating nose of Asian spices, toasty oak, incense, blueberry and licorice. Full-bodied and structured with the fruit to match,

Vivid purple. Strikingly complex aromas of black currant, raspberry compote, violet, olive and Asian spices. Broad, palate-staining dark berry flavors are brightened by zesty minerals and pick up an exotic floral note with air. The mineral element gains strength with air and carries through a long, pure and sweet finish. I couldn't get this off my palate, but I didn't try very hard.

 

Wine 100：96 points

A selection of Duval’s very best Shiraz, this has superb depth and style, showcasing all that’s great about passing Barossa Shiraz through experienced hands. Dark blackberry flavour, some deeper earthy, savoury layers and long, smooth tannins. Impressively poised now, it will reward some time in the cellar.

 

Good Australian Wine Guide：96 points

The very best shiraz to pass through Duval’s experienced hands, this has a superb sense of depth and grace, relying on soulful, rich regional depth. Blackberry, black cherry and cassis are all nicely framed in savoury oak and gentle spice – refined and tidy. The palate makes a statement of structure and precision, deep tarry blackberry flavours build to spiced blood plum through the finish. Impressively balanced, beautifully extruded and convincing shiraz.

 

Wine Enthusiast：93 points

A big, burly, muscular expression of Barossa Shiraz, with mouthcoating tannins that frame rich flavors of chocolate, cedar, vanilla and just enough plummy fruit to support all of the new oak. Give this 3-4 years to integrate and mellow. Imported by Old Bridge Cellars.

Fruit that's been given first class treatment with sumptuous, chocolate-coated purple fruit with a savoury streak running through. Fine poise. A wine of some distinction and one of Barossa's leading lights.
